How to choose floor and table lamps
Lamps are the easiest way to add warm, low-level light without any wiring. Use a floor lamp beside a sofa or reading chair and table lamps on side tables and nightstands to create pools of light that make a room feel comfortable in the evening.
For reading, place the bottom of the shade roughly at shoulder height when you are seated. Lamps with dimmers or three-way switches let you go from bright task light to soft ambient light.

On a side table, the bottom of the shade should sit near eye level when you are seated, which usually means a total lamp height of about 24 to 30 inches.
What is the best floor lamp for reading?
An adjustable or arc floor lamp that can direct light over your shoulder works best. Look for a shade that hides the bulb from direct view.
Do your lamps include bulbs?
It varies by model. Integrated LED lamps have the light source built in, and bulb information for other models is listed in each product's specifications.
