For the best light on your face, light the mirror from the sides with a pair of sconces, or from above with a vanity light. Then add a damp-rated ceiling light or pot lights for general light.
A vanity light should be about 75% of the mirror's width and mounted about 75 to 80 inches from the floor. Side sconces sit about 60 to 66 inches from the floor.
Bathroom lighting FAQ
Can't find your answer? Our lighting consultants are happy to help with sizing, finishes and installation.
Ask a consultantDo bathroom lights need to be damp-rated?
Yes. Choose damp-rated fixtures for bathrooms, and wet-rated fixtures inside showers or where they may be sprayed.
Should a vanity light face up or down?
Facing down reduces glare and lights the face and sink. Facing up gives a softer, more ambient glow.
What colour temperature is best for makeup?
3000K to 3500K with a high colour rendering index gives accurate, flattering light.
