Most landscape lighting runs on 12V low voltage, which is safer and easier to install than line voltage. Size your transformer so the total fixture wattage is no more than about 80% of the transformer's rating.
Use path lights every 6 to 8 ft along walkways, spot lights to uplight trees and architecture, and well lights for a clean, hidden look.

Ask a consultantWhat size transformer do I need?
Add up the wattage of all fixtures on the run and choose a transformer rated at least 20% higher.
How far apart should path lights be?
About 6 to 8 ft apart, alternating sides for wide paths.
Can I mix brands on one transformer?
Generally yes for 12V systems, as long as the total load and wire gauge are correct.
