How to choose bathroom vanity lights
Good vanity lighting lights your face evenly without harsh shadows. For a fixture mounted above the mirror, choose a width of about two thirds to three quarters the width of the mirror and mount it around 75 to 80 inches from the floor.
For the most even light, flank the mirror with a pair of sconces at about 60 to 66 inches high. Bathroom fixtures should be rated for damp locations, and a CRI of 90 or higher shows skin tones and makeup accurately.
Bathroom vanity lights FAQ
Can't find your answer? Our lighting consultants are happy to help with sizing, finishes and installation.
Ask a consultantHow wide should a vanity light be?
Aim for a fixture about two thirds to three quarters the width of your mirror, and never wider than the vanity itself.
Should vanity lights face up or down?
Both work. Glass shades facing up give a softer, wider spread, while downward-facing shades put more light on the face and countertop.
What colour temperature is best for a bathroom?
3000K is warm and flattering for most bathrooms, while 3500K to 4000K gives a crisper, brighter feel for grooming tasks.
