How to choose pendant lights
Pendants are the most flexible way to add task and accent lighting. Over a kitchen island, plan for the bottom of each pendant to hang about 30 to 36 inches above the counter, and leave roughly 24 to 30 inches between pendants so the light spreads evenly.
As a guide, two larger pendants or three smaller ones suit most islands; a single linear pendant is a clean alternative for long islands. For warm, inviting kitchen light, look for 2700K to 3000K colour temperature.

Two pendants suit most islands up to about 6 ft long and three suit longer islands. Leave around 6 inches between the island edge and the outer pendants.
How high should pendants hang over an island?
About 30 to 36 inches from the countertop to the bottom of the pendant is the usual range, adjusted so the fixtures do not block sightlines.
Can I shorten the cord or stem on a pendant?
Most pendants include adjustable cords or multiple stem pieces so the height can be set during installation. The adjustable range is listed in each product's specifications.
